If you want to use your new loft conversion to create an additional bedroom, and increase the value of your home, you will need to decide which type of loft conversion will be most suitable. From roof light loft conversions, to Mansard loft conversions, there are a number of different options, suitable for a range of properties. But what are these options, and which type is right for a bedroom? Well, here at Pinnacle Loft Conversions, we are Preston’s leading loft conversion professionals. And this is our guide to choosing the type of loft conversion for a new bedroom.

Desirable qualities

The first place to begin when thinking about your new loft conversion, is to decide on the desirable qualities of your bedroom. If you are creating a room that will be used as an occasional bedroom for example, you might have different requirements to those creating a new master suite. So your desirable qualities could include:

  • Space for an ensuite
  • Large window space
  • Great storage
  • Good head height

Choosing the type of loft conversion for a new bedroom

So, once you know exactly what you want from your new bedroom, you can consider the different types of loft conversion, and the different qualities they bring. You’re options will include:

  • Mansard loft conversion- this often creates the largest area from your loft space, but it does require structural work and planning permission. With a Mansard loft conversion you should have a room with the same head height as the other floors of your property, so it really feels like an extra room. This is perfect for adding an ensuite to as well.
  • Dormer loft conversion- with this loft conversion, you will have a large window installed, which is great for allowing natural light into the space. You will also have an increased head height, when compared to a simple roof light conversion, but it doesnt extend the space available in your existing loft cavity. This could make it difficult to fit in both a bedroom and an ensuite, depending on the size of the space.
  • Hip to gable loft conversion- with this type of conversion, you can extend the head height and the area of the loft space available, which is great for homes with a smaller existing loft space.
